Larto Lake covers more than 8,200 acres with a shoreline of 175 miles in length. The lake receives water from the Red River, the Black River, and the Little River. The Larto Lake Dam helps control the lake’s volume and is managed by the Larto Lake Commission.

Lake Recreation

Larto Lake is best known for its excellent fishing conditions. It is a hot spot destination for crappie fishing and white perch fishing, along with Saline Lake. You can even book guided fishing trips to find where all the big hot spots are.

Dewey W. Wills Wildlife Management Area is located along the shoreline and is open to the public for hunting, fishing, camping, and outdoor recreation. Along Larto Lake, you can spot a plethora of wildlife, including alligators, deer, hogs, pelicans, and more.

You can visit the Larto Lake Landing and rent a cabin or stay at the RV Park.

History Nearby

Just a few minutes from the lake is Kent Plantation House, the oldest standing structure in Central Louisiana. The plantation house represents life between 1795-1855 in Louisiana and displays artifacts and operations during those times.

Visit Alexandria, Louisiana

You can drive just a few miles west to the larger city of Alexandria and enjoy the many amenities.

In addition to dozens of restaurants and bars, Alexandria Zoological Park is another excellent option right in the middle of the city. You can see jaguars, Bengal tigers, lions, and more in the spectacular exhibits.

The Red River also winds through Alexandria and makes a great view once the sun begins to set.
